From One Question to a Movement of Hope

Hope for Future CBO was born in Kilifi County from a simple but powerful question: “What about the next young person?” For our founder, Festus Jefwa, this question became deeply personal after witnessing a childhood friend struggle with substance abuse. Though his friend eventually found support and rehabilitation, the question remained — who would be there for the next young person?

Having experienced the value of counselling, mentorship, and community support in his own life, Festus believed that young people could also become part of the solution. He brought together fellow youth to create safe spaces where they could speak openly, listen to one another, and find support. This vision gave birth to Tusemezane — meaning “Let’s Talk.” What began as simple peer-led conversations gradually grew into a movement rooted in hope, connection, and opportunity.

In 2023, Hope for Future was officially registered as a community-based organization, expanding its impact beyond mental wellbeing into education, child protection, youth mentorship, skills and talent development, and empowerment. Today, the organization works hand in hand with communities and partners to help children and young people overcome barriers, discover their potential, and build brighter futures.

Our journey began with one question — and today, it continues as a commitment to create hope for the next generation.
